Our last Ballistix DDR3 review showed that DDR3 was king of bandwidth. Today, we prove that point ten fold. When mated to an NVIDIA 790i motherboard, the Crucial Ballistix PC3-16000 are fast at stock...and absolutely lethal when pushed further.

Cooling The Radeon HD 4850 - (Web Link) - July 5, 2008, 2:48 pm - Comments (0)

The test results show that the Coolink GPUChilla dropped the idle temperatures by 49% and the load temperatures by an impressive 45%! Our only complaint on the Radeon HD 4850 was how hot the card ran and the Coo link GPUChilla took cooling to the next level. The 49% reduction at idle put the Radeon HD 4850 at 33C, which is better than we expected. The fact ory heat sink works, but it obviously leaves room for improvement... NZXT Tempest Case - (Web Link) - July 5, 2008, 6:11 am - Comments (0)

Despite the wide variety of cases out there, from HTPC units to full towers, theres one quality that they should all possess in order to qualify as being worthwhile and that is having good airflow. It doesnt matter if a case looks like the next Mona Lisa if it doesnt keep your rig cool. With this in mind, NZXT has released the Tempest, a gaming-oriented case that claims to be the Air Flow King. With six fans included stock, two of which are huge 140mm units the Tempest certainly looks the part. Can this mid-tower live up to the hype?

Diamond HD 4870 512MB - (Web Link) - July 5, 2008, 12:59 am - Comments (0)

Quote: The 4870 is an excellent card, but for now, all the models are functionally identical, and there are yet to be factory-overclocked cards, let alone custom-cooled models. Variation ranges from changing the sticker to adding spiffy adapters. If you buy Diamond, youre not buying a different card, youre buying better service, only theyre not charging extra.

SilverStone Nightjar 450W Zero dBA Fanless Power Supply - (Web Link) - July 5, 2008, 12:22 am - Comments (0)

The NightJar Fanless PSU series is available in two flavors, 300W and 450W. Ill be reviewing the Nightjar 450W Zero dBA Fanless Power Supply (SST-ST45NF) which peaks at 500W and this is more than enough power for a HTPC or a silent gaming build. This PSU uses solid state Capacitors which results in cleaner more reliable power than cheap capacitors found in many other PSUs on the market. The housing is made from thick aluminum and it acts as a heastink since this PSU does have a fan to keep it cool. It also has plenty of ventilation holes, but its crucial to have excellent case ventilation to insure this PSU gets adequate cooling. Watch the video to find out more. ~3dGameMan.com

Snippet: We all know that when you buy some software, a gadget, a piece of hardware or anything else, it is nice to know you can return it should there be a problem and (hopefully) get your money back. However, being a smart consumer means understanding the issue from the retailerâ€s perspective, too.

PNY GTX 260 Video Card Review - (Web Link) - July 4, 2008, 6:21 pm - Comments (0)

In the end the performance of the PNY GTX 260 was good. The price for the card is a bit high at $449.99 when compared to new offerings from AMD. The card performs well and I suspect over time the price will come down and make it more attractive."

XFX GeForce 8800 GS & 8800 GS XXX - (Web Link) - July 4, 2008, 2:43 pm - Comments (0)

SNIP: At times it feels like you just cant keep up with the rest of the world. There is always something that creeps up on you when you least expect it, and many times you are not ready for the changes that come along with it. Videocards are no exception to this. I am the type of person that would love to be on the bleeding edge of technology at all times, but my wallet just cant always keep up, so sacrifices are made. I recently got the chance to take a look at the NVIDIA 8800 GS and 8800 GS XXX from XFX. You may be thinking that these cards are old, as we are now in the 9000 and 200 series from NVIDIA, but for those of us who have to take a slower approach to upgrading our PCs, these cards are a great value.

Sapphire Radeon HD 4850 Video Card - (Web Link) - July 4, 2008, 3:59 am - Comments (0)

Sapphire has always offered the most influential ATI graphics products available, and the new Radeon HD 4850 is no different. Although it still uses GDDR3 clocked at 993 (1986 MHz DDR), unlike the 4870 version that is decked out with GDDR5, the Sapphire 100242L model offers 24x custom filter anti-aliasing (CFAA) on its 625 MHz 800-core RV770 GPU. Benchmark Reviews tests the Sapphire Radeon HD 4850 graphics card against the closest competition, and even compare CrossFireX performance in this performance review.

: Celeron, Pentium Dual Core and Athlon X2: Which One is the Best USD 70 CPU? - (Web Link) - July 4, 2008, 1:23 am - Comments (0)

Today we put together a review comparing the performance of entry-level CPUs on the USD 70 price range: Celeron E1400 (dual-core 2 GHz), Pentium Dual Core E2160 (1.8 GHz), Pentium Dual Core E2180 (2 GHz) and Athlon X2 4600+ (2.4 GHz). With this review we wanted to answer a simply question: which one is the best USD 70 CPU today? We also included on this round-up a Core 2 Duo E4400 (2 GHz). We know that this CPU isn't on this price range (and not even sold in the US anymore), but we were curious to compare a Celeron, a Pentium Dual Core and a Core 2 Duo all running under the same clock rate (2 GHz in our case) to see what is the performance difference between these Intel CPUs. Which CPU is the winner? Read on!"

AMD 780G/780V/740G Integrated Socket AM2+ Chipsets - (Web Link) - July 4, 2008, 1:23 am - Comments (0)

"While we have already examined a few motherboards on AMD 780G, some performance matters were not covered. For example, operation in the Hybrid CrossFire mode and decoding of HD video. To be more exact, they were waiting in the wings for a traditional "personal" review of the chipset. Now we finally publish it."

Crucial Ballistix 1GBx2 PC3-16000 at Overclockers Online - (Web Link) - July 3, 2008, 10:37 pm - Comments (0)

Crucial once again knocks socks off and does it in style. The Ballistix line of memory has always been known to impress and rightfully they should. But what this kit of memory has done on the 790i test motherboard is just above and beyond what our expectations were...and our expectations were certainly a little bit lofty coming in. Needless to say, we werent expecting to be able to benchmark at 1100MHz+ and certainly not at the little amount of voltage that was required to do so. Simply put, this memory out ran the motherboard and it wasnt even a close race.
